Avelo wins €1.5 million Eurostars Grant

We congratulate Avelo on this great achievement in terms of scientific collaboration. Avelo is now part of a consortium of three companies, including VIVOLTA from the Netherlands and BLINK from Germany.

This consortium has been awarded a €1.5 million Eurostars grant to develop a new solution for diagnosing lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs). The three companies are joining forces in the BreathCounts consortium to develop an innovative, non-invasive system to diagnose LRTIs using a patient’s breath as sample material. LRTIs are currently the fourth most lethal disease worldwide, causing more than 2.5 million deaths annually.

The companies aim to develop a disposable breath collection device containing an electrospun filter and a high-throughput diagnostic assay capable of screening multiple pathogens at the point-of-need. The project will span two years and lay the foundation for market launch in 2027.
