OCCIDENT celebrates 10 years of supporting young talent through CO-OPERAID

For the past decade, OCCIDENT has proudly supported CO-OPERAID, a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering young talents in developing countries.

Specifically, OCCIDENT has been supporting the Talents Scholarship Program, which supports young individuals from impoverished families in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos and Kenya. The program’s impact becomes clear as we see how it changes individual lives. Here are two inspiring examples of how CO-OPERAID is transforming futures:

  • Nancy’s journey from East Pokot, Kenya, exemplifies CO-OPERAID’s impact. Despite facing poverty, cultural barriers, and even a forced marriage attempt, Nancy pursued education with determination. Through the Talents Program, she is now training to become a Montessori teacher – a crucial role in her community where most educators are unfamiliar with the Pokot culture. Nancy’s aspiration to become “the best Montessori teacher in East Pokot” highlights how targeted support can transform individual lives and entire communities.
  • Dr. Mong Sing Swe from the Marma minority in Bangladesh grew up under challenging circumstances but aspired to be a doctor from a young age. However, the cost of such education was prohibitive. With CO-OPERAID’s support, Dr. Mong Sing Swe not only achieved his dream of becoming a doctor but also returned to his community to enhance local healthcare access.

These stories illustrate how targeted support can create a ripple effect that benefits entire communities. By investing in education and empowering local talent, CO-OPERAID contributes to sustainable development and positive change.

Many thanks to the entire CO-OPERAID team for their tireless efforts and for 10 years of trustful partnership! We look forward to continuing our support for more talented individuals like Nancy and Dr. Mong Sing Swe in the years to come.
